In the event of a vehicle crash, the vehicles may not provide the protection required by the standard if an occupant strikes the a-pillar trim.
The correct interior trim covering the a-pillars may not have been installed. If incorrect trim was installed on a vehicle, the vehicle would fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 201, "occupant protection in interior impact."
